Public Service Announcement

I know many of you blog giveaway enthusiasts out there also like to send away for freebies. I just wanted to warn about a freebie out there for a free pack of Nerds candy.  If you come across this freebie on any of the freebie sites, don't click on the link.  It is a questionable looking site and is clear it is not a freebie sponsored by Nestle, the makers of Nerds candy.

My antivirus popped up immediately that the site had put a trojan virus on my laptop. It quarantined it, but evidently let something else through. Whatever it was was messing with the antivirus programs. I ran three different antivirus scanners and the virus wouldn't let any of them complete. It got to a certain file in each of them and just hung there. Since the scan never finished, the programs couldn't remove the virus. To make a long story short, I ended up having to format my hard-drive. UGH!

Anyway, I just wanted to warn people to only request freebies from reputable companies. You can hover your mouse over the URL and check out the web address before your ever click on it. Fortunately I had everything backed up, but it is a huge headache to have to reload everything.

So that's my public service announcement for the day. Stay safe while you are surfing. Antivirus programs don't catch everything.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season!
